
Cesis City Sport School
is youth sport education institution. Main aim of the Sport School
is to develop healthy, active, physically and intellectually fit
personality.
Developing of Sport School- Step by step:
School
was established in 1952 with 9 sport departments: basketball,
skiing, track and field athletics, volleyball, gymnastics, football,
cycling, tennis and speed-skating.
Sport School programmes during years - orienteering
(from 1986), floor ball (from 1992-1994 and from 2002), table tennis
(from 1994), BMX (from 1995), badminton (from 1997), sport for
disabled (from 2000), swimming (1958-1960), canoeing (1961-1963),
shooting (1962, 1964-1966), chess (1965-1967, 1971-1985, 1997),
downhill skiing (1968-1973, 1990), ice hockey (1991-1993), luge
(1997), wrestling (2000).
Cesis City Sport School
is main youth sport education institution in the Cesis
Region. Today we offer part time education in profession- orientated
following sport curriculum:
basketball,

biathlon,
badminton,
cross country skiing,
track and field athletics,
table tennis,
tennis,
orienteering,
BMX,
floor ball,
volleyball,
football
and sports for disabled.
Target population of our school is from age
of 7-25. Our school is one of the biggest Sport schools in
Latvia and in year 2007/2008 we unite 1090 students all
around the Cesis region.
In year 2002 School won the National Olympic
Committee prize as a best country Sport School. In
year 2007 School took 2nd place between Sport schools
in Latvia.
Sport School main aim is to develop healthy, active,
physically and intellectually fit personality able to cooperate
with others. School acts as a main region governing body
of sport arrangements organization for youth. We also promote
methodological help to Cesis region schools sport education
lessons.
School unites 38 well educated and experienced coaches and sport
administrators.
School is financed by Cesis city local government and
earmarked subsidy from state budget.
Our best youth and junior biathletes Kaspars Dumbris,
Janis Berzins, Edgars Piksons (summer biathlon World
junior champion 2002), Gerda Krumina, Liga Glazere are role
models for youth. They all participate in 2008 World biathlon
championship in Sweden Ostersund.
Santa Dreimane and Zane Eglite played in
Latvian women national basketball team in European championship 2007
in Italy and took 4th place.
Ieva Krastina and Karlina Nimane played in
U18 and U20 Latvian cadet and youth basketball teams in European
championship.
